I don’t think so Mitch. the Io is not compatible with Tiger (OS 10.4) with the current drivers. So you’d have to run FCP 5 with OS 10.3.9 (required by FCP 5) to even try it – I doubt it’ll work, but

Typical… at NAB they said it was compatible with both the Io and the Kona2. You’re probably right. How about someone from AJA clearing this up?

Tiger arrives in a week… if they expect all the Io users to hold off, it proves that AJA needs to put more effort into the Io and less into the Kona2 for awhile…

Mitch, I think AJA was saying that the Io would be compatible with FCP 5 and Tiger when FCP ships sometime in May. I spoke with several senior people at AJA and a few people at a Apple that confirmed to me that this was the plan. They said they want to make available the new drivers as close to the release of FCP 5 as possible. There might be a small delay in the release of the updated Io drivers, but they should be available around the same time as FCP 5.

What we have to remember, and its easy to forget, is that Apple controls the driver releases for the Io. AJA has input, but does not write them or control their releases. The control panel app is a different story, but lets let that one go for now

All good points Tony. The problem is we can’t operate in a vacuum these days. We have a lot of testing to do when Tiger arrives. We need to determine what software does and doesn’t work or needs updating (outbound hardware as well).

While we have many machines, the only G5 has the Io. Apple and AJA having us wait on that until FCP ships is a short-sighted strategy. Clearly one would be better served having a Kona 2 or a Decklink than owning an Io. For us, the Io will have to be abandoned once Tiger ships until it can be used again when the drivers arrive late. Hell, maybe we’ll just sell it instead and move on…
