That’s why you should, instead, export your timeline as a ref file, using current settings, and bring that into Compressor. You’ll still have full control of FCP that way.
I think I read that FCP7 will allow you do it directly from the timeline and affect usage of FCP at all.

I dint recommend the MyBook drives for editing usually. G-Tech (gdrive) & Lacie have been great to me. The rugged is actually quite nice and is bus powered. Really though…whatever you get, try to get a quad interface so you have four I/O options.
BTW, I’m sure the MyBooks are fine for backup purposes.

Look a little harder…you can find the Lacie Rugged with FW 800. Esata is the best and not much more. Plus you can get a caldigit esata cartd for $45. Check out B&H

I have the advc 110 and it works great if you only want to view SD / NTSC timelines on a TV. If you’re working with any flavor of HD, it will play it out but it looks like doo doo. You’re better off with a Matrox MXO2 mini or full size box and a decent LCD HDMI TV. I have the full MXO2 and it’s AWESOME with a 26″ Samsung LCD.
I still have the Canopus connected and use it for VHS to DVD for clients. It’s just easy to do and it’s already set up 🙂

I did get it sorted by the way! Buy a CalDigit card. They write their own version of the drivers and the cards are geared towards Mac. FASTA 2 port eSATA card is what I got and it works awesome!

You might try using livetype and make a project that you can reuse whenever you want. Just use it as a template and change it as needed. Just an idea. I use it all the time.

I just went through a bunch of trouble with a Pyro A/V card I had bought. Driver problems, kernal panics that crashed my macpro, basically not working. I sent it back and bought a CalDigit FASTA PCIe card and it works beautifully!
I guess they write their own mac drivers so everything is perfect. B&H is where I got it.
