Thanks Rob! Much appreciated. So…does ProRes work in AE? This us some very cool stuff. I’m excited to dig in once I finish my current project in FCP.

I have to say, you cannot go wrong with the MXO2 (not the mini). It’s awesome even with a standard HDMI LCD TV. Plus it’s portable in case you need to take it into the field. I also like that it not a card with a boatload of breakout cables hangin off the back of the machine.

Hey Dave…I’m new to AE (using cs4) and my workflow is usually 1080i60 transcoded during transfer to ProRes (non HQ) in FCP.
Does AE work well with ProRes files like I’ll be using? Also, what settings are best for me to use in AE for things I’ll use in FCP and best way to render/export out (ie codec) of AE to use in my projects?

FWIW, check out Caldigit FASTA cards. I tried a couple others with no success because the silicon image drivers wouldn’t work (even when tech support swore the should). Then I tried Caldigit (who writes thier own version of the drviers for Mac) and it worked perfectly!

Couple things real quick. I looked at your settings and wanted to point out that plain ol Prores is fine for most of what you’ll do unless your working with RED footage or are going to film for delivery. It’ll be easier on your machine and easier to work with, plus it has a slightly smaller file size.
Also, your audio settings are at 44.1 kHz and standard is 48 kHz. You should determine whether your original footage was really shit that way. If not, you should change that.

Wow Kevin! I can tell that you are pretty much the guru in the AE dept. Very useful info. I can already see that this forum will be just as useful to me as the FCP forum has been. I appreciate you taking the time to explain all of that for me.
I’m extremely excited to really learn AE. It’s already giving me te same thrill as when I first started with FCP. I live for this stuff. From just the short time I’ve been playing with the trial, I find myself litterally dreaming of things I wanna do or try in AE. It seems SO versatile and I can’t wait to dig in. Already been all over the video co-pilot site.
I’ve also got a bunch of plug-INS that’ll work with ae as well as my current system so I know I’m a little ahead of the game but I can tell I’m going to end up drooling over and then buying much more.

Thanks Dylon! I checked it out and yes, it does support both. It said for the OpenGl it uses 2.1… whatever that means. It does have 512mg memory onboard as well.
I had read that a “known problem” (in the pdf on Adobe’s site) where it causes you to have to force quite AE or something like that.
Anyone out there actually using one of these cards and can you tell me if you’ve had any problems thus far?

If you are editing in SD, the Canopus should work fine. I’m nit sitting in front of my machine right now but I think you just go into view and select the FireWire device for output. You’ll also want to select “all frames”.
