You mean autoselect? The default is they’re all selected. Option clicking on toggle selection for that track and deselect the others. You can press the T key to get the track selection tool, which lets you select the contents on a track. T and shift for multiple tracks. There are tons of shortcuts, and you can roll your own.

By select a track do you mean set a destination track? F6 and the track number for video. F7 and F8 and the track number for a1 and a2. F4 and the track number for video track lock. F5 and the track number for audio track lock.

You want a ripple delete. The forward delete key next to home on the extended keyboard, or Shift-Delete with the big delete key.

The paste content function has been broken in some versions of the application.

The replace function is extremely powerful in many ways, especially with ganging. It’s a function in the edit overlay, has a button in the canvas, and uses the shortcut F11. It replaces the current frame in the canvas with the frame in the viewer, taking its duration from the clip on the correctly auoselected track. Try it. It’s a great tool.

Export a QuickTime Movie, self-contained using current settings. Quit FCP. Open Compressor. Import the QT Movie.

Trash your preferences. Reboot with the deck turned on and connected. Relaunch the application.

You haven’t marked In and Out points in one long sequence and cut it multiple times into another sequence, have you?

If not, I’d look at a media or a drive issue. Might be time for Disk Warrior.

Without the media it will obviously launch very quickly. It may be a corrupt media file or a render file, though that usually produces a different symptom. How big is the project file? Is it time to split it into pieces. Large projects with a lot of media need a lot of pre=planning to handle the media efficiently.
