If the clip is selected and you press the option key before you move the clip it will give a copy insert function. If you move the clip and then press the option key you will get the hooked arrow for a swap edit. In no instances do I see other tracks not moving when either edit is done. The insert in either function moves all tracks for me.

What you’re doing sounds like a swap edit. What version of the application are you using? What you describe does not happen for me. All the tracks downstream of the edit move together. There may be specific instances in which the tracks don’t move properly because of track conflicts, but normally it does happen.

That functionality seems to have been broken in FCP5. I haven’t tried it with RS422, but it’s broken using FireWire, so probably is there as well.

Opt-= and Opt– will zoom the timeline even if the viewer or the canvas is the active window.

You’ll have the same transition problem whether FCP breaks up the clips or not. If you use the whole shot and try to add a transition to it, the transition would just extend into the next shot during the effect.

Quite the contrary. Someone who says he’s running the UB versions of FCP and Motion and the other apps without problem. I wonder if this is a PAL/NTSC thing. He is only doing DV of course.

Is it a clip with two tracks of audio? Can you delete one of the tracks, or are they separate, discrete tracks? If the latter send to multitrack project and open the track you want from there. Otherwise delete a track and see if you can send the single track to a project file. STP is a little flakey about this.

This is such an unusual and non-standard form of shooting, and having material, so different from anything else people might encounter, that my first reaction would be that it’s not a good vehicle for instruction. It’s also limited specifically to narrative fiction, which, while appealing to those in LA and similar production centers, is not the vast bulk of production created by this software. It might perhaps be good training material for a film school, but again the multicamera production makes it so unusual that it might have limited appeal. Just my thoughts on it without seeing anything of the material or how it’s shot.
