So what I have been told to do is get my Varicam and the two g5’s in sync with TC. We use them to grab Green Screen Shots. One gets the Matte. One gets the ForeGround. The camera records the almight back up tape. The two g5s are running FCP 5 with Kona 2 cards and the BOBs. I have a TC READER that converts to usb then to 9pin [422]. In the Kona 2 Control panel I can see that the TC from the Camera/Converter is coming in but I can not see it in the FCP Capture Window.

Is there anyway to get TC from an external source into FCP and retain said TC through capture now?

    Thanks So Much in Advance,

    Ben

That functionality seems to have been broken in FCP5. I haven’t tried it with RS422, but it’s broken using FireWire, so probably is there as well.

    All the best,

If the deck control is set to ‘non-controllable device’ FCP will ignore the incoming timecode. You need to set the deck-control tab to a setting where it is happy to accept the TC incoming – you may need to experiment to find one that works.

Hopefully, as long as FCP sees running TC (which it should on a basic deck-control setting like Sony VTR-A) it should still allow you to ‘Capture Now’. See if this helps.
