I’ve had this happen a bit too. The fix seemed to be to make sure everything is FULLY rendered and not just playing in realtime. Go up to your render settings and make sure everything is checked including full render.
This fixed that problem for me. -
I’ve had it happen in DV/NTSC and just today in DVCPro 720p60
-
once or twice, rendering “fixed” it.
but I often still have black AFTER rendering.
I’ve gotten to where I just don’t even think about these effects, but I like the gradient wipe quite a bit, and would love to use it more. -
My bad.
[Mark Raudonis] “You may want to pause a minute before definitively stating that someone is having a unique problem.”
if you would have read my post more carefully I clearly used the word “may have”,
“I submit this in order for you to know that you MAY have a unique problem.”
and thereby was definitively NOT stating that he has a unique problem, merely offering it as a possibility.Clearly the large amount of posters have confirmed that this is a major problem and should be addressed immediately.
Thanks for the condescending comments, I will pause and reflect upon my wicked ways.

please post your results once you’ve tested a few things.
I’m also “one of the lucky ones”, but I don’t want to press my luck.
cheers to ya! -
I know this doesn’t help you solve your problem, but I’ve not heard of anyone having this specific issue. I reconnect media all the time with no issues. I’m on 6.0.2, Leopard, QT 7.4.
Didn’t have any issues with my laptop either (6.01, Tiger, QT7.3.1).I submit this in order for you to know that you may have a unique problem.
My only suggestions would be things you may have already tried…
repair permissions (try booting into safe mode for repair), trash preferences, do a clean install, may even think about an OS reinstall. -
Hey Dave-
What am I missing?
I can’t find the AVID codecs within Compressor. I haven’t done your trick, but its interesting. I was checking things out and I couldn’t find the DNx within compressor. I looked and the avid codecs are in library/quicktime, so I should see them right?
What folder is it in?
thanks

I’m having lots of trouble with DNx too.
I’ll be monitoring this thread to see what comes of it.Since purchasing a new system:
xeon octocore
Leopard
AJA HD
QT 7.4
FCP 6.0.2I installed the avid codecs (brand new ones as of last week) on this new system (worked perfectly many times on old system: MBP, QT 7.3.1, FCP 6.0.1).
now on new system the DNx exports are horrible.
Darks are blotchy and whole picture is milky.
There is no place to change the quality from medium. I can choose to include an alpha now, but that doesn’t help me.I’ve been just exporting lossless QT and taking it to the MBP for delivery export.

Couple of things, does your sequence codec match your footage codec?
Do you have other effects on your footage like color corrections?
Did you use an “easy setup” that matches your footage?I wouldn’t think you would have to render transitions, even on your current system.
Check your settings, including unlimited RT vs safe RT.The new system you described will be a GREAT upgrade for you, but I think if that is your only concern, I think with a little research you can solve your problem and hang on a bit longer.
There are still some issues being worked out with the latest Quicktime and Leopard.
May be best to wait it out. -

January 29, 2008 at 8:20 pm in reply to: exporting AVID DNxHD in 6.0.2 and Leopard and QT 7.4still no way to change from medium quality, still blotchy darks.
Here are some still examples…
same video timeline, except #2 went through a (what I call) Final Cut Quicktime, then brought into MBP system (project isn’t downward compatible). Those jaggies do not show up in the video, must be the pct conversion.
Setup is supposed to be a romantic meal, so it is dark on purpose, to try to simulate a cozy restaurant.#1 new AVID LE 1.8 codec (FC 6.0.2 leopard, QT7.4 octocore system)
https://idisk.mac.com/toddreid//Public/new%20codec_1.8.pct#2 previous AVID LE 1.6 (FC 6.0.1 Tiger, WT7.3 macbook pro system)
https://idisk.mac.com/toddreid//Public/previous%20codec.pctAs I mentioned above, I am stuck with this codec as my largest client requires me to deliver in this codec (surprise-they have AVIDs!).
Any thoughts or suggestions as to how I tell AVID about this issue.
As a final cut user, I don’t think I have much pull with them
