I think it is idiotic to have 2 SATA 6g ports on the same controller as the SATA 3g ports. But, I’ve seen strange things from Gigabyte… So when someone asks me, I usually tell them to go with another manufacturer.
But, good luck! I’m telling you, that hardware controller probably won’t have much more performance than a software RAID anyways.
Better off with a decent card controller.

It also sounds like the BIOS may want to include all the SATA ports into the RAID. I’ve run into mobos that did that and it was impossible to have the hardware control the RAID and have a single disk on the same controller – it just wouldn’t do it. I would have guessed that with the 2 SATA III ports, they would be on a different controller. You could always set up as a software RAID as well. The performance between the software and the hardware on the mobo won’t be too dramatic.
Or you could go through a complete re-install. With all the time you put in now, you could’ve just as well.

You may want to go back to where it worked. Should be able to software RAID those drives if anything. You may want to check with Gigabyte as to why it crashes when changing to AHCI. I had to change from IDE to AHCI before on a EVGA board, the process was a whole lot smoother…

Sounds like it could be using all the SATA ports in the RAID. Should be able to switch back to non-RAID and boot up. But make sure first that it is indeed set in BIOS to try booting from that SSD drive before any other drives.
But, and I just thought of this… when selecting the RAID in the BIOS, it may have switched your port with the SSD drive to AHCI, try changing that to IDE.

No.

Can be. Depends on what you go with in terms of processor speed and RAM. There are a couple XEON Workstation Mobos that aren’t server boards as well, if you wanted to go that route.

I would stick with the Nvidia Cuda enabled cards. I don’t believe that more than one will be of benefit, but check the Adobe web site for card compatibility.

No, but you don’t need to do a clean install. You have 2 controllers on that mobo. Backup your files, because you will need to format your 1TB data drive – any data on it will be wiped out. Place the SSD on the SATA 6G, place the 2x1TB drives on the other SATA (3g) controller. You’ll probably need to go into the BIOS and tell it to set that controller to RAID. You should then be able to create the array from the controller BIOS when booting up, or software after you boot up.
If you’re not sure about anything, get someone who knows what they are doing to help or pay. Reading the manual will help as well.

J-K-L maybe? Hit L to go forward, again will go faster, and again faster yet. K to pause, J to reverse. There is also a shuttle control just below the play button on your Preview and Program monitors.

Or download, burn, and run off disc – Ubuntu Linux. That can format for Win or Mac, and you don’t have to install it.

There is an option to ‘Use Previews’ in your Video Export settings to speed up your export, if you so choose… Just need to check it on.

What codec are your QT files?
PPro will not be able to play some FCP files. You may need to convert to another codec, but more info is needed to say for sure.
