To add what Jeff said, you also need to use a codec that will allow that size. I don’t know much about DXV, so I can’t say that is the case or not. H.264 will do it.

And, yet another thought… Definitely keep your system drive and media separate, that will bog down your computer. I wouldn’t worry about a Raid for the system drive, but using one drive and imaging it to another drive for backup. Then do what you were looking at with the RAID-0 for media and backup that daily. If you are able to, get a good, dedicated hardware RAID controller and do RAID-5 for media that way, but you will still want to backup daily. As others will point out, RAID-5 is not backup.

Sounds like you may not be using a Blackmagic sequence setting. Make a new sequence with Blackmagic sequence settings and drop your footage in there – it should show up in your reference monitor then.

There are no drivers listed for Windows 7 64-bit for that PC, but there are Vista 64-bit drivers available. Does this mean that Windows 7 won’t work? Not necessarily. The 64-bit Vista drivers MAY work. Although, you may want to add more RAM, and possibly upgrade other components.

What does Disk Management show? Does it show the 2 drives as brick color in the bottom, graphical view, but only one drive in the top pane? My guess is that the system drive is on the 1-6 SATA ports, along with the 2 media drives, and if you switch to RAID in BIOS, you will lose access to your system drive – the RAID controller will want to view it as part of the RAID. So they probably just used Windows to create the RAID and bypassed the Intel RAID software. Could be working correctly, just using Windows software for the RAID.

Couple of things to look at:
1. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your Radeon video card.
2. Check where your preview files are being rendered. Make sure it’s not going onto your C: drive, but onto your RAID-0.

Danny, how are you viewing your rendered files? Are you using Windows Media Player? I’ve discovered that I will have issues with media player playing mpeg-2 files. I think it is the mpeg-2 decompressor that microsoft uses – they wrote their own apparently – and you can’t tell WMP to use a different one as default (AFAIK). Unless there really is a problem with the file, vlc should play it fine. Also, if you import back into PPro, it should play fine. I don’t know if the AME rendered mpeg-2 has an error that media player can’t resolve or not, but changing the bit rate and re-rendering usually helps if you want to make sure WMP can play it.
In my case, I’ve found that rendering out uncompressed and converting that to mpeg-2 doesn’t really help either. It really is a pain to go through.
I’ve posted on many forums with little help about this – here, Adobe, Microsoft. Adobe can’t say there’s a problem with the file, because it plays fine in Adobe software. Microsoft claims I need DVD codecs, which I don’t – it would be nice to be able to select a different mpeg-2 decoder in WMP though, I think that would solve the problem. And I’ve got a system with plenty of power to spare.

Now you got me thinking… In studio green screen I could use the SDI-HD out to the Matrox straight into the editor. The SDI out is a bonus in that regard.

That’s why I posted here… I didn’t even see the NX5U! Sony says it has 4:2:2 HD/SD SDI outputs – nice. So I assume it can shoot 4:2:2?
It’s not a deal breaker, but I would like the extra color-space for keying.
