Yep. Trash the prefs. Also, I would save a custom layout. I have one for dual monitor and single monitor. When I need to, I revert to it.

When Dynamic Linked AE comps slow down my PPro timeline, I will render in AE, not replace the comp in my PPro timeline, but place in a layer above. That way if I need to trim or go back to AE and change it, I just right click the comp layer and edit it. Keeps it all on the timeline, rather than replacing the comp.

Yes. And you will have more than one fan. You could have one fan not working causing more heat and other fans to speed up to accomodate. So will need to open the case and check it out. A fan blowing into the case can help temporarily.

Never used Alt-Shift-Drag, but use Alt-drag to replace clips all the time. It keeps the set in points of the clip I am dragging onto the timeline. If that’s what you’re looking for. I just tried Alt-Shift-drag and it seems to go to beginning of clip.

Sounds like overheating, GPU/possibly CPU. I would check into why that is happening, possible a fan may not be working. But in the meantime if you need to get this video out… Is this heavy in effects or plugins? Any AE Comps that are Dynamic Link I would render and place the renders on a layer above the original or replace in PPro. You may need to render out pieces to something like ProRes, re-import and assemble for a final export.

You actually have to go back to prior to the April 2018 version 12.1 for the legacy QuickTime support. If that is the issue.

But I would try what Greg suggests first – transcode the footage to an edit friendly codec. H264 is resource intensive to edit.

Are you saying it records 29fps? Or is it 29.97. What are the details showing you in PPro?
