If you are going to do this, be sure to change the “Frame Controls” to “Custom” or your frame rate will stay the same as the original clip. The “10-bit Uncompressed NTSC” preset defaults to “Frame Controls” of “Automatic”. FYI

March 22, 2007 at 1:53 pm in reply to: FCP not flagging 16:9 capture as anamorphic (automatic 4:3 distort)Yeah, I believe there is a difference that changing the extension will not fix. MPEG Streamclip is a free program available here:
You can open your .mov DV file and export a .dv file from that program. Give it a whirl.

You could just reverse the clip on the timeline (Right-click the clip, select “Speed” and check the “Reverse” box).
But if you want a more “analog” look to it, you could just put the section you want to rewind to beta tape, then manually record the output of that beta deck as you rewind your clip.
There are probably some plug-ins that would do this (I think Digital Anarchy may have one, or Delerium), but sometimes the simplest way to do things is also the best.
Hope this helps.

Great plug-ins, and they have a Pro Mist plug.

Sounds like you might be using DV as your sequence preset. If you have the capability, using an uncompressed sequence setting should help tremendously.

Actually it is essentially the same thing. If you drop the file into a sequence FCP will render that into the format that matches your sequence settings. So you are in effect doing this preemptively through Compressor, and then working native in your timeline.

You could run the .avi’s through Compressor’s “Advanced Format Conversion” (first option under “Settings”) and select the format that exactly matches your FCP timeline.

I bring in image sequences through QuickTime Pro (File>Open Image Sequence) and then kick out a .mov that I bring into FCP. I don’t know if this is what DRW is referring to, but it sure would be nice to give FCP the ability to recognize an image sequence on import (like Avid, AE, Combustion, etc.) as they are somewhat of a standard for bringing animations into the edit suite.

If so… trash your prefs and see if it improves.
I have never heard of the problem of FCP recording video to a directory other than what the user specified.

I’ve seen this error message when trying to open a FCP file that was created (or saved) by a later version of FCP than I am running.
Is this the case with you?
