We use Sorenson Squeeze to create preview movies (320×240) that can then just be emailed to clients. The come back compressed at around 1.5 Meg for a :30 spot.
Sorry… don’t know much about the web site issue.

  • This is just ONE of the small things that avid could do to hold onto their “base”.
If I had a dollar for every time I saw “Precomputes can’t be loaded…”

What kind of problems do you guys get using Compressor from FCP?

I only ask because after burning 100+ DVD’s in that manner, we have had no sync issues at all to deal with. (I don’t really like tying up FCP for the duration of the encode, though…)

    Just wondering…

    Heh… Uh, hope my boss isn’t reading this… 😉

I do have a game or 2 installed on my Mac (not installed on my system drive), but that is really only after years of running FCP on my personal laptop while running my own business. I was so impressed at the multi-tasking of the Mac platform that I started pushing it a bit just to see what she could do. I found that running FCP3, After Effects 5.5, and Photoshop 7 all at the same time worked out just fine, so long as I didn’t have too much going in any one of them at the same time. Now, in PS I might have had a logo open that I was tweaking, and AE might have up a simple text animation I was working on. FCP3 was just using DV footage at the time also, and it really did all work at the same time.
Obviously if I am working on a time-sensitive, really important project I would not try to push it too much. It’s in the “slower” times that I have tried my crazy multi-tasking feats.

I do remember back when I was first using NLE’s and it was a huge taboo to even have the internet connected. Times have changed…

Just try it and see. I don’t think you can “break” anything, but you might have to re-edit to tape if you drop frames.
This is one of the things I love the most about the Mac: multi-tasking! I sometimes push it a bit… Once I was rendering out a huge composite in Combustion, a sequence in Final Cut, and I booted up and played my “Soldier of Fortune” game at the same time. The game was a bit laggy, and Combustion render time went up to like 60 seconds per frame, but it all worked.
I will say this, though… I believe that when I use “Edit to tape” my mouse cursor dissapears altogether, which leads me to believe that the multi-tasking while laying off your video might not be the best idea.
    You can always try though!

Why not go with a megapixel camera? You can take any image size into FCP, and larger pictures allow things like DVE “push-ins” and the like. Just a thought.

    How much?

My system is rock solid. We’d love a deal on a 2nd FCP suite!
