March 5, 2007 at 10:15 pmI’ve seen this error message when trying to open a FCP file that was created (or saved) by a later version of FCP than I am running.
Is this the case with you?

March 5, 2007 at 11:09 pmYou may have a corrupted file – either project, render or media.
The first is most likely – but first trash your prefs and try to open FCP again.
If that has no effect, open a previous version of your project from your autosave vault. If you have trashed prefs, FCP will open with no project, and you can browse to the latest autosave (listed by date/time) in the autosave folder and open the previous version. That usually works for me. Save this autosaved version as the current version and redo the last ten mins of work you did.
You do use autosave don’t you?
All the best,

March 5, 2007 at 11:13 pmI did use autosave, that didn’t work. I also tried trashing the preferences as well. I will try opening it on another computer that I was working on before I bought my new laptop. Thanks for the help guys it is much appreciated.

March 5, 2007 at 11:18 pmIs your laptop Intel and previous system G4/5? Could be the problem, but I have projects started on a G4 laptop that open fine on my MBP, so I don’t think it’s a problem in every case. Possibly a combination of FCP version and OS/hardware COULD cause this problem, but it’s just as likely to be a problem with the project. Try deleting all the render files associated with the project to see if that helps – a corrupted file is often the cause of these crashes.
