That may not be the Adobe-supporting statement that it’s meant to be because Premiere Pro 2 doesn’t do 1280x720p 24 HDV either…without the help of CineForm Aspect HD anyway.

I think the “native” issue is just not as important as it seems to many at the moment.
With DVC ProHD on FCP, the idea is that you save some money by not having to have an HDSDI capable deck or computer…but DVC ProHD isn’t exactly the best HD image quality attainable…8 bit only…very subsampled…constant bit rate (color correction that creates some additional information may end up causing a re-compress to get the image back under the data rate ceiling, etc.) AND with the Varicam, you actually shoot 60p all the time…the 100 Mbits/sec applies to the 60 fps stream. If you only take 24 frames per second out…that’s only 40% of the pictures…40 Mbits/sec. Not that 100 Mbits is anywhere even close to uncompressed, but 40 Mbits starts to make HDV look like a contender…
Using a high quality intermediate codec is the best way to preserve the quality of your HD footage…whatever format it is. In that way, DVC ProHD is certainly supported by CineForm Prospect HD…it’s far better quality than DVC ProHD when it captures from an HDSDI line in…tape format agnostic, decompressed, square pixel signal.
So I think that some are under the impression that since there is not specifically labeled “DVC ProHD codec” preset, that PPro can’t handle DVC ProHD workflow…and that simply isn’t the case. As a matter of fact, the Prospect workflow using HDSDI is far more industry standard than capturing DVC ProHD through FW…

If you are completely clear on the origin of the material, I can’t personally see the problem. Maybe put sections in the reel where each editor has sort of a segment…that way the resume is attributed to the editor, and you can credibly answer the question as well.

Avid ingests DVC Pro and edits it natively? I thought it transcoded…

QT Pro costs 29.95…that’s how I’m going to MP4. It’s not fast, but it sure is clean.
I’d go with a dual Opteron…I suppose ideal conditions would be a dual processor/dual core Opteron system. That would be the fastest as of today I think…

It isn’t wasted if you can help somebody…if you do have an alternative workflow, I’m sure it would benefit more than just David and Larry…I haven’t gone there yet, but I can’t say that dual-system sound isn’t going to come up at SOME point this year…
…I’ve put up more than a couple posts on the Cow that I wish I could take back…heat of the moment…some other external reason to be in a bad mood…it happens. If you really do have an option…please, offer it.

It’s an effect you have to put in, but you can do a timecode burn. I’m personally jazzed that I can have a TC window on an MPEG 1 proof if I need to…not just tape.

While I’m not Jacob, I use a laptop as well…a 3.2 BOXX system.
I’m not sure there are any features that specifically help you edit on a laptop…other than dockable windows do make a single monitor desktop easier to manage for sure.
For HDV, my personal opinion is that CineForm Aspect makes that a workable proposition on most computers…I ran that on a non-HT P4 2.8 Laptop I had and it ran just fine…I doubt I could say that for HDV native.
Otherwise…Premiere Pro is still kind of a handful compared to Vegas or Edius as far as horsepower required…but then I think the feature set makes the tradeoff worth it.
If you run the production studio, you’ll want a LOT of RAM for multiple apps open at once.

The trick is that David was re-syncing what I assume was nearly ALL his footage. To export this as clips would take up the space of the entire project again, but also, he needed to re-capture HDV after doing a DV offline to finish the project, but ideally he would only re-capture what he used on the “Master” timeline.
PPro trims, but counts everything that is on a timeline as used…therefore it won’t do a lot of trimming in his case. I’m assuming that Avid will trim with attention to specific timelines…David can’t delete any timelines either as they’re the basis of his “clips” in his master.
It sounds like the Axio probably solved most of his issue when it allowed him to work with HDV directly?
