On the GoPro ProTune streams…I’m not that familiar with that process…is that running during all this? I know that some processes in the free version of GoPro Studio do not multi-thread the last time I looked at it.
have you looked at CPU usage (and I’d like to know what it’s doing per-core, not just overall percentage) when exporting something without GoPro ProTune footage?
Your processor clock is fast…which is good for H264. The 660Ti has a decent spec…
How is your sequence set up? Are both GoPro streams being scaled down to 720p AND being frame-duped to 59.94/sec, or are the GoPro streams being scaled and the Nikon footage is dropping every other frame for a 720p29.97 output?
You have the frame rates all synced at least right? You don’t have 30p and 29.97p on one sequence set one way or the other? I’m not familiar with the kinds of files Nikons record. If you have 29.97 and 30fps and/or 59.94 and 60fps mixed together, you’ll definitely increase your render times…

I know that Windows decides what application a file launches with from the extension…and auto-launches the last installed version. On my Windows machine, I have to select an option to ‘open with’ CS6 if I don’t want it to automatically open CC when I double-click the file.
All that said, in my former Mac-user life, I always thought Mac file association was a bit more sophisticated with a file resource fork, etc…

August 18, 2014 at 4:33 pm in reply to: This project contained a sequence that could not be opened. No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence type.Hey Josh,
Are you still using CC or have you moved to CC 2014?
Adobe posted a fix for this on Windows…though i think you had to run the fix every time you updated CC.

Have you run this fix?

You are correct that in many cases the only difference in the presets is the name. The presets are put there for people who don’t know, or want to take the time to create a sequence setting based on their footage. They’re designed to be time-savers.
More presets now have preview codecs set up that correspond with the preset name, and many of those presets now match to footage much more accurately when dropping a clip on the ‘new item’ icon to auto-create a sequence.
Clips that don’t have a specific preset are matched to the first sequence preset alphabetically from the list that fits the frame size, rate, and pixel aspect of the footage. (Before ARRI had a preset, AVC-Intra was the typical wild card for 1080p). Since Premiere Pro is basically codec agnostic, it doesn’t matter as the sequence preset name is not a limiter of any kind…
The issue has existed for years. It’s something I file bugs on regularly as I think, particularly with so many FCP switchers now using PPro, it’s quite confusing.
…but it’s not harmful and it won’t create a problem.

In CC 2014, get the clip in the source panel and drag the effect onto the source panel to put an effect on the master clip.
It affects every iteration of that master clip, even the ones already placed in sequences.

You always achieve a cleaner replacement if you uninstall first (from Add/Remove programs in control panels).
Then…you can basically insert disc and obey orders…

August 4, 2014 at 3:52 pm in reply to: Moving from Premiere Pro CS6 to Final Cut Pro 7 with RED filesIs the edit frame size 4K or cropped and/or scaled HD/2K?
Specifically with RED R3D footage, you might be better off hiring a PPro trainer for the guy.
Anyone who’s editing expertise and practice is still centered on FCP7 needs to start making some decisions about the future…

Speedgrade is more GPU dependent than Premiere Pro is…before Adobe bought it, it relied HEAVILY on OpenGL for its responsiveness.
I haven’t run into issues on the Windows side, so I can’t really compare notes I’m afraid.

Adobe does a considerable amount of beta testing…
There does seem to be some issues on Mac that aren’t issues on Windows, so I don’t know what role Apple plays in some of this? 10.8.5 has been around for some time, so the OS really shouldn’t have any surprises…
But…had you actually mentioned the symptoms you’re referring to, even those of us on the forum who aren’t on a Mac (it’s been a bit more than a decade for me) would have told you to try dropping to CPU only as the first test. With the speed that GPUs are developing and the application itself is updating, eliminating the GPU as a factor is PPro troubleshooting step 1, even if there isn’t a known bug.
So…my point here exactly…the software itself isn’t “riddled with bugs”…there is an existing software/hardware conflict with a particular component in your system…at least for the moment.

August 2, 2014 at 12:37 am in reply to: Crash pasting text from AI CC into Premiere Pro CC titlerOddly, they’re both vector text systems…just different systems. Illustrator vs Inscriber…
I’ve never attempted to do the copy-paste thing myself.
You know you can just load an Illustrator file into a Title Designer canvas? right-click, choose logo. It doesn’t come in as editable text, it comes in as a graphic.
