Moving from Premiere Pro CS6 to Final Cut Pro 7 with RED files
Hey guys.
I’m working on a short film that I edited solely in Premiere Pro CS6 because I was super jazzed about the fact that you could edit RED files natively in the program. It’s been incredible and seamless. I’m really glad I made that choice.
However, my cut is coming to a close here in the next month and I’ve brought in a professional editor to do some fine tuning. He’s one of the best documentary editors in the US…BUT he’s very “old-school.” He prefers to work on Final Cut Pro 7. This is a program I grew up using and still cut some things on it when the project fits. But not quite sure how to transfer RED files to FCP at this stage in the game.
I’m semi-aware of how to start a RED file project on Final Cut Pro 7, but not sure how to transfer a project near it’s finish into Final Cut Pro 7.
I’ve exported my XML to Final Cut Pro 7 but all of my files are considered “unlinked.” When I try to reconnect them, Final Cut Pro cannot connect them…or rather, does not connect them. I assume this is because FCP does not read RED files natively. From what I’ve heard…you use proxy files from the original RED files to edit in FCP 7.
So my question is…how do I make the proxy files for a project that’s nearly finished? How do I make this easy to transfer between FCP and PP CS6? Will it be easy to transfer my XML back to PP CS6 when it’s finished so that I can export at a higher resolution if needed?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. So thanks in advance.
