effects on source vs clip
Does anyone know how to add effects to the source footage so it takes effect in all clips cut from that source. ive tried draging the effect to the source but it dosent seem to work. im not sure if this is a noob question for basics but im sure you advanced users will know. if someone could do a quick step by step .. it would be greatly appreciated

i think it has to be loaded into the source viewer..then drag the effect to the source viewer.
then it will apply to instances of that clip used…

Wait wait wait…
Let’s say you have a source file. And you use this one source file 30 times in the sequence. What Floyd is asking is can you add an effect to ONE of the instances this appears in the sequence…the first time, and have that same effect somehow apply to ALL THIRTY of the instances that source appears in the timeline.
You are saying that’s possible with the way you described? The only way I’ve been able to do this is to, say in FCP 7, FIND ALL and give the source name…all instances of that highlight in the sequence, and then I drop the effect onto it.

In CC 2014, get the clip in the source panel and drag the effect onto the source panel to put an effect on the master clip.
It affects every iteration of that master clip, even the ones already placed in sequences.

Whoa! really? So if you need to adjust scale or position, it does that globally?
Amazing. What versions are needed for this? CC? CC 2014? I’m still on CS6 for subscription dislike reasons…

Since PPro is strictly used for non-profit cutting (ie family video) at the moment, I can’t justify the expense. All my paying work is done on Avid (I work for a production company) and FCP 7 (onlining what clients give me). Nothing Adobe in my neighborhood yet, so cannot justify the rent.
Hopefully something will come along that allows me the choice of NLE.
