    Hi Ed,

Hopefully you saw my response in your other thread.

    For the archives here –

You only need that ATTO ExpressSAS R680 RAID HBA if you will also be attaching a disk array to the same HBA and require hardware-based RAID. Otherwise, the H680 will work fine.

For the OS, while different software may have different requirements, our BRU Producer’s Edition is compatible with all OS X versions from 10.6.8 through the upcoming 10.10. It doesn’t require specific hardware, so a base Mac Mini or fully loaded Mac Pro work equally as well.

    Hi Ed,

To the ATTO HBAs, either will work for tape depending on what else you plan on attaching to the system. The difference is that the R680 has built in hardware RAID support while the H680 doesn’t.

I would like to invite you to take a look at our TGL1800 solution as it includes everything that you need in one package – including the BRU Producer’s Edition software. There’s nothing else to buy and only one phone number to call with questions.

Please open a support ticket on this anyway. Select Demo as the serial number and mention that I told you to open the ticket in the description. This falls upper a potential restore problem and the engineering team takes those VERY seriously.

That’s the good thing about LTO – LTO-6 with read and write LTO-5 and read LTO-4. Basically – write two generations and read three.

I could have sworn that I answered this, but it seems to be missing form the thread.

Currently, the change is only for the Areca board in the mLogic mTape unit. We are trying to get Areca to apply the change across the board to all of their SAS HBAs, but they’re not moving quickly on this.

The tapes are always restorable, but you don’t mention which version of BRU PE you are using.

As always, I recommend starting with our support team – that’s what they are there for. Open a ticket at https://support.bru.com or give a call to +1 480-505-1814.

September 15, 2014 at 4:34 pm in reply to: BRU PE Import tool can’t read multiples tapes

I’d start by opening a ticket at https://support.bru.com.

The way the import tool works is very dependent on HOW the original tapes were created – is it a single archive that spans multiple tapes? Is it multiple archives on a single tape? Is it multiple archives on multiple tapes? These scenarios are what the two options are for in the UI.

If neither of those is working, there’s something odd with the tapes that we need input on as it’s probably a corner case that we didn’t think about. Once we have the info for your tape(s) layout, the Import Tool is updated to take that scenario into account.

A library houses multiple tapes – from 8 to 1,000’s. For software to properly use the multiple tape capabilities automatically, it must be written to use the automation capabilities.

With all BRU products, you can use 1 tape to 1,000’s of tapes as a single archive with completely automated spanning of the tapes. With LTFS-based solutions, the user (or the software) must manually split the data to be written to tape into tape-sized chunks (either 1.4TB or 2.3TB) before it’s written. If you try to write more than the adjusted tape capacity to an LTFS volume, you’ll get the same error that you get when you try to write more to a disk than will fit – “No space left on device”.
