Okay – first step, please update your BRU PE version to the 3.1.6 version. You can do this using the “Check for Updates” option in the Help menu.
Next, if the destination still isn’t visible, please open a ticket at https://support.bru.com. If your support is expired, please select Demo and add a note to the ticket mentioning I wanted you to open the ticket. Finally, open a Terminal and do this:
ls -la “/Library/Application Support/BRU PE” > ~/Desktop/bru_pe_env.log
Attach the resulting file (on your Desktop) to the ticket.

This is related to the actual recovery metadata that BRU’s archive container format includes in the archive. Depending on the data types and block size used, that can range from 8%-15%.
That added data is what allows BRU to recover data from archives that other applications and formats would simply give up on.

But remember, LTFS is free and open source – unless you want it to be useful, in which case you need to buy a proprietary, 3rd party app… ;).
This is why everyone should read our LTFS caveats doc. As long as you are aware of these issues, you can work around them.

There are a number of reasons why the actual tape you’ve inserted and what BRU PE thinks is inserted can differ. My recommendation – as always – is to contact our support team on Monday. If you open a ticket at https://support.bru.com, the guys will see it first thing and get right back to you.

Per – if you do decide to go with an LTO-4 solution in the near-term, we have very aggressive pricing on LTO-4 packages starting at $2,699 that include everything that you need to connect to your system. Check them out at:

Unfortunately, once the Index partition is corrupted on an LTFS tape, it’s pretty much all over for the data contained on that tape.
We’ve tried a number of options to try and rescue these types of failed LTFS tapes in our lab, but we’ve had no success to date.

Unfortunately, this appears to be an issue with the index partition on that tape. You might be able to force a deep scan recovery (can take many hours), but unless that works, you won’t be able to access the data on that tape.
If I had a dollar …

The LTO-4 solution will save a bit up front, but for 6TB plus your existing content, you’ll eat up the savings in tape before you’re done.
If the LTO-6 is out of range, you could split the difference and go for the LTO-5. The LTO-5 tapes are around the same price per tape as LTO-4, but you store almost 2x as much per tape. Also, the performance is a bonus since LTO-4 will run around 100MB/sec and LTO-5 gets you to 140MB/sec.
If you can stretch to LTO-6, you’ll see another capacity boost – 2.5TB/tape – and a speed jump to 160MB/sec.
regardless of which you choose, BRU solutions support all three drive types (unlike those LTFS-only solutions that can’t support LTO-4).
