  • BRU restore bails after 1000 error messages

Posted by John Kaley on August 29, 2014 at 5:44 pm

I’m restoring files to a new system and after 1000 user permission errors, BRU quits the restore. Is there any way to have BRU simply ignore these errors, as every file will have the same error message?

I’m restoring 10 of thousand of files, and baby-sitting this restore isn’t productive. Thanks!

The more important question is – why are the files reporting permission denied failures? You really should examine the filesystem settings for the volume that you are restoring the original files onto.

If you would rather not solve that problem and simply ignore it for this restore procedure, you can use the brutab option:

    #+BRUMAXERRORS=9999999999
    #+BRUMAXWARNINGS=9999999999

in the /Library/Application Support/BRU PE/etc/brutab file. This is documented in the BRU PE User’s Guide in Chapter 13 around Page 93.

If you would like further help with this, I recommend opening a support ticket at https://support.bru.com.

    Tim,
Thanks for the follow-up. I was able to restore all files without any more trouble.

I’ll look into the permissions issue, however, the target drive for the restored files is set to “ignore permissions on this volume.”

So I’m not sure why BRU was generating permission errors.
