Hi Dan,
import into FCP6 brings them into the browser with no errors, the browser columns all seem normal except the “compressor” column is blank. When double clicking the clip loads into the viewer and is white, with audio, same as opening in quicktime. If i put it in the timeline, it drops in with a red render bar, if i try to render it gives the error “Codec not found. You may be using a compression type without the corresponding hardware card.” hmmm

Hi david,
Thanks for the reply.
I did check that and as far as I know it is as it should be, in the root>library>quicktime folder i have (among other codecs) 6 different avid codecs, including AvidAVDJCodec.component. That should do it right? can’t figure out what might be wrong.-t

Just figured it out. For the benefit of anyone with the same problem, If you change the settings in the audio output tab after you have edited into it, it has no effect. After I created a new seq with the appropriate settings and pasted the contents of the original seq into it, the 4ch output worked.
thanks, tim

Compressor 3 has a check box setting in the prefs to auto launch BM on submission. The default seems to be unchecked

May 23, 2007 at 11:00 pm in reply to: Studio 2 requires ORIGINAL serial number for installWell, We have had upgrades since version 3.0 . I bought the $499 version and installed it today. After the installation process asked for the FCS 6.0 serial # it asked for the original serial #, I put in the one that came with my 5.1 crossgrade discs and that worked just fine for me. Bummer that this is causing folks trouble.

IIRC, you need to place the final edited sequences in a new project. Then select them and do a media manager from that project. Have a look at the tutorial at
https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/FCP_4_trim_dang_it.html
It’s for FCP 4, but the ideas are the same

” If the HX200 camera could record to tape, you’d be in business with us. It all comes down to the cost of running the camera as compared to the final output.”
Actually storing HD on tape is almost 6 times as expensive as storing on hard disk. DVCPRO HD 32 min tapes cost $48 at BH. That breaks down to $1.50 per minute. Using p2, and shooting 720 24pn, you can store 1000 minutes (400 gig) on a 500 gig drive that costs $260. That breaks down to $0.26 per minute. Even if you double that to provide an additional drive for redundant backup, you still are 1/3 the cost of shooting to tape.

Thanks for the links, For the benefit of anyone who may be needing the same thing… After downloading and installing the codec on my MacPro, still no joy, but it did work fine on my Powerbook G4, so I just used the powerbook to convert them all to animation, then transferred those to the MacPro.
Thanks all, Tim
