I Installed an LHe into a macpro last week. I have a dual 3.0 4 gigs of RAM, and the ATI X1900. I haven’t used the machine too heavily yet, but sofar capture from the component ins to DVCPROHD and playback of DVCPROHD from P2 card imports out the SDI to panny monitor all work flawlessly. Also the downconversion to SD is fine. What are your specific issues, perhaps I can try to duplicate them here.

Bob, Thanks for the tips. i’ll be running almost exclusively off of four internal sata drives in the mac pro. and almost exclusively dvcprohd, so shouldn’t have any probs there. No firewire 400 drives 🙂 So any old pci firewire card is ok?

Hmmm, Those are good points. I like to have lots of applications open at once, but I never thought about TOO big being a negative :). I’ll head down to the apple store and take a long hard look at the 30″ and the 23″. I think i’m pretty sold on the dells whichever size i go with, but don’t know of anywhere I can go have a look at those in person.
I don’t think the cable length will be a problem as the cpu will sit directly under the desk. Thanks for all the input everyone.

Thanks for the messages, I’m pretty set on having 2 monitors, my question is specifically about the 30″ Dells. Anyone used one? Anyone used 2 at once? To make the dells even more enticing, they have refurbed ones for $1150! That is a pproaching two for the price of one when compared to the apple.

Thanks Jimmybee and Paul for your input. I have a couple of follow up questions. When you mention HDCAM decks Jimmy, it looks like the ones that support digibeta only support playback right? There’s not an HDCAM recorder that could also RECORD to digibeta is there?

Also, we once rented a deck (I think it was a dvw500 but not positive) That refused to recognize any audio embeded in the sdi from our decklink. The rental house later told us that some “older” Digibeta decks didn’t include audio over sdi, is this true and if so, how do I make sure I’m not getting one of those.

Also, still looking for any opinions of broadcaststore.com.

I think your math is a little off, wouldn’t 2 hours of dv material be about 23 gigs?
