And to be honest, I never use the trimmer. I find working on the timeline much faster, easier and more logic. Working with the trimmer is a kind of ‘old fashioned way’ which is still used in programs like Adobe Premiere….

Create three video tracks
Add the black and white mask to the upper track
Place footage one at the middle track
Add footage two to the lower track
Add the mask generator fx to the mask event at the upper track and choose the option LUMINANCE
Choose for the composition mode of the upper track MULTIPLY (MASK)
Make the middle track a child of the upper track

To crop your video diagonally, you can make a black and white mask with the desired shape in a photoediting program and use this in combination with the Sony Mask Generator FX in Vegas

There is a plugin for Vegas which among others has a motion tracker function: Boris FX. You should be able to create the effect (and render it) within the trial period.
