If you want to use circular shapes as a mask, you can use the cookie cutter (which you will find in the video fx tab)

What you could do is add the secondary color correction to the scene with the gray back ground. Select the gray background with the SELECT EFFECT RANGE pipet and place the alpha slider to zero. You can adjust the mask with the sliders under LIMIT LUMINANCE.

Yes, that is very easy. Place the 2 photographs on top of each other, each on iys own track. Then adjust the size and place of the photographs in the track motion window.

To change your point emitter into a area emitter (or anything else), right-click on the emitter in the preview window and select MAKE AREA (or any other options if you like).

To make a photograph exact the right size, it should be 655 x 480 pixels for NTSC or 787 x 576 pixels for PAL (or multiplies of this if you would like to zoom).
Ofcourse you can also zoom to fit in the track motion window or simply context-click on the still, select PROPERTIES and deselect MAINTAIN ASPECT RATIO.

To add random transitions in this way, you need to have the pro version of Vegas, which can handle scripting.

Yopu can add the two stills on top of each other (each on its own timeline) and position the stills in the scene using the TRACK MOTION window (found in the track header).

In Vegas Studio this is very easy: Go to OPTIONS-PREFERENCES-EDITING and mark the AUTOMATICLY OVERLAP MULTIPLE….(And choose the number of frames to overlap)
Add your stills by double-clicking in the explorer. They will overlap with a crossfade. When you are done, select all the stills on the timeline and drag a transition of your choice to the timeline. That’s all.
