There is a problem with Generated Media in Vegas 9a. So if you are working with version 9a, you could wait for 1 week (or maybe less) till the update 9b will be released. If you can’t wait for 1 week, you can go back to Vegas 9.0

squares etc can be made with Vegas generated media. But all other form can be easilly made in e.g. photoshop. What do you need?

Do you mean the black frame at the end of the video with different events in it? Simply make a black and white mask in e.g. photoshop. Black are the black bars and white will become transparant in Vegas.
Open Vegas.
Place the black/white mask on the top track.
Place the inserts (video’s) on the tracks below the mask and Resize/reposition these videos with the track-motion tool.
Set the composition mode of the mask-containing track to MULTIPLY (MASK) and enjoy your effect.
Any black/white shape you can think off can serve as a mask for this effect.An example of a mask may be downloaded here:

If the deleted file was captured previously, then the RECAPTURE option would be black. However, if the deleted file was previously copied, e.g. from a hard disk camera or something like that, you wil have to copy the specific file back to a location on your hard disk. So what is the origin of the missing file?

You mean something like setting the foreground or background color by using the eyedropper? Yes, that is possible.

I believe that it is anyhow much faster to drag directly from the explorer onto the timeline instead of using FILE-OPEN….

Even when you use the FILE-OPEN option to add files to your timeline (a very original way to do this…), you can select only the file-types you are interested in (second pulldown menu).

Ofcourse that is also possible in Vegas….
Right-click, not on the event on the timeline, but on the event in the PROJECT MEDIA TAB. Select REPLACE from the pulldown menu and Vegas will let you choose the file that should come in place of the selected event.
The timeline will be automaticly updated.Theo

Are you talking about .sfl files (that contain marker information) or .sfk files (that contain audio waveform information)?
Anyhow, when you drag videofiles from the Vegas explorer, you can hide these unsupported files by deselecting ALL FILES from the VIEW TYPE BUTTON on top of the explorer tab.
And when you drag your video files from Windows Explorer directly onto the Vegas timeline, you can press the TYPE button below the menu bar in Windows Explorer to group all your video files together…
