Hi Jon,
Most of us render video and audio as separate files, which get exactly the same name (apart from the extention). Both files are placed in the same folder!!!
In DVDA, you only import the videofile. The audio file will follow automaticly (if the are in the same folder and have the same name).Theo

On top of your preview window, you will find several icons. The fourth from the left is the SPLIT SCREEN VIEW button (a square with a black circel inside).
When you click on this button, you will inactivate it and your effects will become visible.On the right site of this button you will find a small arrow pointing to the bottom. If you click this one, you will see that you had choosen for the option FX BYPASSED, which makes all your applied FX invisible.

Instead of using the EVENT PAN/CROP TOOL to reduce the size of the clip, you can use TRACK MOTION to do this. In that case, the BORDER FX will be around the video clip and not around the whole frame.

Do you mean you would like to have your event in the shape of an arc? No problem for Vegas. Just use the DEFORM FX (see attachment:)

If you only want to have straight shapes like squares, rectangles and circles, you can make everything you like in Vegas. Even the methot suggested by Danny will do. If you like to have special shapes (e.g. an erlemeyer for a video shot in a laboratory), other programs can be very usefull.
But you can make any creative idea you can think of. What about a waterfall that starts in a square or a circel but where the water comes over the border and falls over other clips?Theo
