Video Copilot’s Optical Flares should be able to do that.

What would help in figuring this out: computer specs, storage specs, export settings.

I’ve made smoke with the different noise generators and masks.

Try importing the footage through the media browser.

It doesn’t matter if you’re rolling back because your GPUs will not use CUDA. There is no reason for you to have CUDA drivers. Your GPUs will however use OpenCL so you should choose that in Resolve and Premiere.

I guess those are spanned clips and you aren’t using the media browser tab to import them?

  • If you give it a bitrate of lets say 4 mbit it will only use that. It will cram 4 mbit/s to the file as best as it can. It may not be enough for the resolution or frame rate but it will deal with the attribute you’ve set.

VBR is a different thing because you can set min/max bitrates and if the codec can encode something more efficiently then it can change its parameters on the fly depending on what it “sees”.

  • [Sean Jahnig] “If i render the exact same project to MP4 in 1280×720 with the same target/maximum bitrate then why isn’t the file size smaller?”

Because the bitrate is the same. You could export a 4K sequence with the same settings and the size will be the same. In compressed formats you should give larger resolutions more bitrate so they’ll look better but resolution itself will not matter in the size. If you use uncompressed formats then resolution would change the final size because every pixel at every frame would be drawn at the selected bit depth.

Have you tried importing the .prel file to a project? Because that’s what Premiere help suggests: https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/importing-sequences-clip-lists-libraries.html

[Shane Ross] “Yeah…XDCAM 422 50Mbit as an MXF is very common as a deliverable. As a QT movie is not…thus the curious nature of the question.”

I’ve sent letterboxed 4:3 TGA sequences to channels last year. My time is spent better actually doing those instead of trying to argue the specs the channels have.
