Ahh, looks like I’m not the only one having trouble.
I just did a complete re-install from scratch of OSX 10.5.5 and Final Cut Studio, Qmaster installed, all updates done, and Compressor simply does not send a batch with Qmaster enabled. I get the spinball of death and eventually it crashes. With Qmaster disabled I can render but not at the exceedingly fast speed that I’ve grown quite accustom to (as have my clients).
This is ridiculous, any ideas on how to get Qmaster back up and working short of a reinstall (as I’ve just done that). I can tolerate the other shortcomings of compressor as long as I get the speed that I’m used to….it help accommodate for all the troubleshooting needed.
Walter, have you just stopped using it completely lately? because of various kinks, or complete un-usability? Is your Qmaster working on your Octocore?
Thanks,

October 10, 2008 at 5:49 pm in reply to: Render trouble with Clone Stamp tool – RetouchingWell, if I turn off the Paint filter that has all of the clones, everything seems back up to speed.
The only adjustments I have are Clones, any other suggestions for retouching out a bunch of dots off a wall in footage?
Thanks for the help.

No, I never really got that to work, and went a different route, but a couple things to try and keep in mind.
I haven’t done this myself but I’ve heard some on the cow have been able to capture via the DeckLink while using DVNTSC device control. You would change the settings in your camera to be DVNTSC but leave the component, or SDI output setting as HD. In FCP you would want to make a custom preset. DVNTSC device control, and the capture setting of your choice. ProRes, DVCProHD, etc.
Also, if you are using a Blackmagic Intensity Card, then I don’t see a reason to use AJA codecs. Use the capture presets that the Intensity comes with.
In FCP 6 you can capture HDV-> Prores on the fly depending on your tech specs, hardrive size, speed and amount you want to load, that could be a viable alternative…..if you had FCP 6 of course.
What are the specs of your system?
How fast are your drives?cheers,

In Tools->Keyboard Layout->Customize, search for “next tab” and “previous tab”, you can assign them to any key combination.
This will work within the primary window you have selected, ie: when you’re in the timeline it works there, when your in the browser it works within those tabs.
Have a good day,

June 27, 2008 at 11:54 pm in reply to: Green frames after Cinema Tools reverse telecine with ProResHQThanks for the input Gary.
[gary adcock] “What Camera is the footage from and Exactly how did you handle it. “
Well actually it was not from a Camera. The footage was a Digibeta telecine of a film from the Nation Archives. I captured it via SDI from a Sony J-30 into the ioHD as 1080 29.97 (Zoom Wide).
The odd thing is that the only the original ProResHQ file(s) cause the problem (anything captured directly from ioHD), though an exported section of that file(s) still in ProResHQ works flawlessly when run through CT.
Does it sound like time to move this to ioHD forum?
Thanks

June 27, 2008 at 7:15 pm in reply to: Green frames after Cinema Tools reverse telecine with ProResHQYup, that the setting I’ve been trying. So does compressor analyze and find the right frames on its own?I’ll keep doing some more testing with compressor but still a bit confused as to why Cinema Tools would produce Green frames. Hmmm.
Oh by the way, here’s a more detailed config:
OSX 10.5.2 FCP Studio 2, Compressor 3.0.3, QT 7.4.5, Cinema Tools 4.0.1Thanks,

June 27, 2008 at 6:46 pm in reply to: Green frames after Cinema Tools reverse telecine with ProResHQHi Jeremy,
Yes, I have tried Compressor and though it does not introduce green frames its results are lack-luster. Cinema Tools is much cleaner in removing the pulldown, albeit when it doesn’t add green frames.
After running through compressor with the same “in” point in the clip (the “A” frame) the resulting 23.98 file has visible interlaced lines whereas the ones from a “successful” trip through Cinema tools do not.
If you have any suggestions on making compressor work correctly for this workflow, I’m all ears as compressor might be a faster engine anyway with an 8 core, just doesn’t seem to have the same flexibility in the settings to achieve the right result.
Thanks for your help,

Thanks Dave
Yeah I know what you mean, completely obsolete in terms of storage, but still useful in the field at times as a loading device, which is what will happen on a number of upcoming shoots.

You can export to anything from DV to HD depending on which version you get.

Walter,
Are you transcoding your HDV to DVCProHD or are you capturing at DVCProHD?
Ever work with the Canon HDV 24F format? How do you treat that in your workflow since there are no pro decks that play it.
Thanks,
