Sometimes when a mac has a corrupted file or other etcs after a har shut down, it sometimes take a while for it to boot up because it’s trying to fix itself. My old g4 iBook for instance has taken 2 hours to completely boot after a hard shut down.

Try going to Menubar -> View -> Refresh A/V devices.
If it takes a 2 seconds for it to finish than it probably found something.
After you might want to go to Menubar -> View ->External Video -> All Frames
if you can’t click it(Disabled), then FCP can’t find the Deck.
Also make sure that there isn’t multiple decks or cameras plugged in(the Quicktime library can handle multiple Inputs through a Array, but FCP doesn’t seem to have this feature).

I almost had a breakdown when I saw this on “apple.com/hotnews”. Its not really hot news either. There are a lot of developers losing money because they have built great leopard apps, but at this point have no market to sell too. Apple is really cutting it short.
I was hoping to buy a New Mac Pro with Leopard with it, but I guess I’ll just wait.Video Specialist

When I by a new computer I like to be safe buy trying to put everything that can’t be upgraded later to its fullest like the CPU speed and then for everything else if I have any money left add on now or buy it later.
For FCP I would try to get Max CPU, but I think 2.16 is good enough. For Ram I would have 2 gigs, 3 if you want to use Motion and/or HD quality footage. I would also make sure it has the best video card for it -> ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 graphics with 256MB SDRAM.
So for summery I would get the middle one(15, 2.33ghz, 3gigs), unless you want a larger screen(17, 2.66ghz, 3 gigs).
If you want FCP to just be able to run, then even the lowest grade model will do.
Hope this Helps!!

This is a big problem with OS X apps, when something like a preference file is corrupted or sometimes when you move an app from one computer to another, the Application when launched will bounce once and then close.

March 31, 2007 at 12:30 am in reply to: OT, I’m fuming over Adobe, this should be illegalThe truth is the value of euros are all most twice the value as USDs. So $1300 in USD is about $660 in Euros. So in fact Adobe is charging about $80 dollars more in Europe.
For instance Apple sells their MacPros starting at $1699 euros in the UK that’s $3343 USD.

It depends on the project, but Compressor works well with all the pixel ratios. Square Ratio is normally used primarily for computer screens.

I use nested sequence every now and again. I’ve realized that you should limit how much you use it. If your doing a huge project with many layers or a long timeline then it might work, other than that – no.
It seems that nested sequences take up ram, processing power, and most of all… Render time!! They can also slow down finalcut and become really buggy when they take up memory.
A few bugs:
-After rendering the video will stay still will your trying to play it.
-The sequence will unlink it self, like what happen to you.
-while dragging the head over the sequence Final Cut Pro will slow down and sometimes stop for a few minutes to think(This is for every frame).
-There are also export bugs that happen. -
The dvix format is a media file not a container like a Quicktime file is. This can make it hard to author or even convert the file because it’s only designed to be played. Another words, a quicktime file can be editing because it is a storage house contain compressed images and audio files. A Dvix format is a file that contains a image and audio together, so quicktime might not be able to understand it very well.
A newer version of Dvix has come out recently that is now a container, but if your file is being used over the internet than it might just be a normal dvix.
Also use quicktime to see if the file is using mpeg-1 layer 3 for audio. This means it is using the Microsoft mp3 standard, which wont work properly on a mac. If this is the main case I would use a program like Dvix Doctor or VLC to fix the problem. You can also use VLC to convert the file to quicktime so it will work better, I wouldn’t use quicktime to do it myself since it normal aliases the exported file.
I hope this Helps!!

I don’t believe they will release it at NAB, but I do believe it will be released before the 21st. I say this because the Apple design award nominations are due by April 23 and there is a category for Leopard Apps.
This could be just for pre-released version of leopard.
What I think Apple will introduce is:
FCS (Suppose to use GPU of Video Card)
Logic (Been 2 years)
iLife (possibly)
Shake (Hope)
MacPro 8 core (Product leak from the UK Apple Store)
Secret Products (Steve jobs’ famous line – “One more thing”.)I can’t wait till NAB!!!
