    All,

Just a bit of advice re Adobe that I’ve found out today.

I’ve been waiting for a long time to do the upgrade to CS3, I’ve got a copy of CS.
So I was overjoyed when looking at the Apple US website it said the upgrade price was $599.95
Imagine my horror when today I saw the price on the UK apple site as

Just curious why you’re posting this in the FCP forum and not the Adobe forums?

[Andy Mees] “you’re not wrong Peter, its criminal … or should be.”

Well, companies are free to charge what they choose I suppose. And the consumer is free to not pay the money and go with another product.

Criminal to me is selling a $5,000 product like Final Touch which does not work and then taking all tech support away when the company is bought by Apple. We’ve had it on the shelf for something like 6 or 8 months because it does not work correctly. Now I’ll have to pay for an upgrade to actually get a working product (maybe) after Apple re-introduces it.

Is not only Adobe. A couple of years ago when Autodesk released Combustion3, the price in the american countries was 1.000 U$ (tax included) and with the AutomatickDuck plugin included for free. In Europe the Price was 1.200 Euros plus taxes (10%) and no AutomatickDuck. Why?

    Walter,

I posted it here as there have been about 4 announcements/posts about CS3, but you are right, I will post on the photoshop forum too and anywhere else I can rant.

Maybe if enough people know about it and complain, things might change – look at the way other companies have ‘annoyed’ end users and never recovered. Digital Vodoo springs to mind.

    Walter,

Ouch, $5,000 is a lot of money to sit on a shelf. What has Apple said about this? nothing? In the UK we have a sale of goods act which means if something doesn’t do what it is supposed to do, you get your money back.

Did you pay for it with a credit card?

I do not agree with you Walter about that the companies can set the prices that they want.. i.e The companies can not sell for less price than the cost of production (dumping). I do not understand why they should put different prices in different countries. Which reason, distribution expenses? We are talking about products that are sell by internet.
This may be a policy of some companies to avoid piracy and make the people happily pay for their products.

    Peter,
I agree with you. I think that is a shame and is quesion to deal with for the politicians of the EU.

    Rafalaos,

So what is going to happen? are people going to go on a software holiday? travel to the states, buy CS3, FCS and whatever else they can, stick it in the suitcase & fly back. A few days in New York & a visit to the Apple store sounds great!

Or people can get their US living auntie/cousin/exwife, whatever to buy it for them and ship it over. Actually, exwife would be a bad idea, the box would contain a brick 🙂

The other thought is actually making money out of it – go over there and buy 5 boxes! Get ’em past customs and away you go, free holiday.

As one videotape distributor said who was pirating a production of mine, ‘Nature abhors a vacuum”
