    Peter,

Would it be possible for you to buy a new non-upgrade US version from now and just keep upgrading it with US versions? The same with FCP Studio and etc. The machines aren’t rigged for US/EU models are they because I thought the power supply was dual voltage or wattage or whatever it’s called?

    CHL,

I have it from a reliable source that I just met in a dark underground carpark that an upgrade copy from the States should work with a European version of CS/CS2.

However, do not hold me or the unamed person responsible if it doesn’t work. If it does work though, let me know!

it’s a trick the learned from macromedia. Two years ago I needed a copy of Director (?, yes I now)
They had special offers (or more than 6 months) in the US and sold the program for 999 down from 1199. In Europe the price stayed at 1349 EURO without VAT
=> that was about 1600 dollars. I couldn’t buy or download the american version.
While 4 or 5 months earlier I could easily upgrade flash by downloading it from their american servers. And was automaticly charged the amount of VAT that I should pay, being Dutch.

I would call this schemes, software piracy

Criminal? Hmm, not sure. My lawyer friend would say, if you buy “technology” from a company. You don’t actually buy the company, and/or it’s baggage. So, probably not criminal, but, capitalism at itds finest….FWIW.

    Looking forward to NAB.

The truth is the value of euros are all most twice the value as USDs. So $1300 in USD is about $660 in Euros. So in fact Adobe is charging about $80 dollars more in Europe.

For instance Apple sells their MacPros starting at $1699 euros in the UK that’s $3343 USD.

You guys are getting the exchange rate conversions wrong. Adobe is an American company (ie they make their money in US Dollars), so lets look at what they are actually making on this price differences.

Lets take a made up example. If they price a download product at $600 in the US and
