I haven’t had the large project issues at all since 5 was released and I work with large projects all the time, RT works great with some HD, I get real time CC in DVCProHD and XDCam HD as well. Multicam is not great, I agree and mixed formats would be good but I still think as it stands FCP works very well.
My only worry about a rewrite is that it will be bug filled and take a year or so to achieve reasonable stability. hopefully the long delay between 5 and 6 means they’ve beta tested it well.

I’d love to order one but obviously the UK barely exists as far as Apple inc is concerned. We don’t get many of the toys until way after the US release.
The phone looks amazing, but in the UK the lack of any 3G ability is a bit of a limiting factor.

Great news about PPro, this means Apple will once again have some competition (apart from Avid of course).
Nothing drives change and innovation like competition.

I think you’ll find the workflow is VERY different to tape based workflows. Although the 35mb codec is Mpeg2 based it certainly isn’t HDV it’s a completely different implementation of the codec and it shows in the pictures. As for editing on a Mac well I get pretty much all the RT effects with the 35mb codec I get with DV footage, certainly doesn’t slow my fast Mac down to a beige G3!
So there is a conform at the last stage if you want to go back to disc, but that only uses some of the vast amount of time you’ve saved while using the excellent XDCam HD workflow.
Biggest sales point for me apart from the Picture quality and price is that you can import clips from a disc whilst continuing to edit at the same time!
