We usually have the engineer do the upgrades to the 3 edit suites at night.

The customization suite (where we add the 800# and lay to tape) is next in line the next day or night. Usually we are customizing thing that were comple several days to a week ago so they woul not have be done in the newer software

The ingestion suite does not need to be upgraded right away because we can digitize it 5.1.4 and then work in 6.

Finally the 4 edit suite which is basically a stand alone suite and projects don’t move from the main suites to that one very often.

If I remember correctly (I’m not at work right now). I get the warning also, but whn I open it and save the project, it will syill open in 5.1.2.

I thought so as weell, but came to find ou that it is backwards compatable from 5.1.4 to 5.1.2.

Oue engineer started updating some of our systems and didn’t quite finish (and now has decided not to finish until we get 6).

I can open a project in 5.1.4 work on it, save it and then open it in 5.1.2.

I don’t have 6 yet ,but if it behaves the same as my 5.1 does then when you choose no to the update to the newer version it closes final cut.

The only way to open a 5 project in 6 is to update it and then save it after your work is done.

You can open a 5 project in 6 and then close it with out saving it and it remains as 5, but that doesn’t do any good if you are working on it.

Yeah, Digital Heaven’s may be better, but the other one is a free plugin.

I’ve done this several times.

First got to the following site and download ans install these free plugins https://mattias.nu/plugins/

There are several good ones, but the one you wil be interested in is a clock timer.

Open or re-open FCP and create a New sequence/timeline.
Place a 10 min black slug in the sequence.

Now got to the text icon in the bottom right of the viewer and you will see towards the botto a group called “Too much Too Soon”.

In there is your clock timer, place it on the 10 min slug and now you have a timer that couts up from 0 to 10 min.

Place the sequence in a new timeline and reverse it to get it to count down.

You need to reverse the sequence and not the slug. Reversing the slug will do nothing.

You can add another trext layer or a Live Type file on to t get it to say “Video will begin in…”

You can also use the Time Strech feature of SoundTrack to either stretch or shrink the time.

I just want to point out the the audio will no longer be in synch with the video in any of theses methods, if that matters.

I agree with everyone. I have lost both LaCie’s and G-Raid’s.

I do what wayne suggests above and it has saved me a couple of time.
I also back up the timeline and project files to and additional external drive incase my internal drive has issues.

The onlye thing I have found the be fairly reliable is the Raid 5 SAN that we are currently using. We have had a bout 3 or 4 drives og bad, but have never lost a piece of information.

Just replace the bad drive and let it rebuild itself.

I’m not sure if this is exactly what you are looking for, but the Sketches Template Open has something very similar to what you are talking about.

They used a Targa file that they just wiped on to simluate it being drawn on.

It is comprised of 4 seperate lines instead of 1 image.

Taake a look at that template and if you can’t use that exactly at least you be able to see what was done.

Winston brought up som good points.

The title or graphics can be done anywhere you are confortable. I use Live Type, I worked with an editor who did everything in Photoshop, because that’s what he was comfortable with.

As far as Drop Frame or Non Drop, Keep it consistant, but I would suggest Drop Frame, becuase that is what you are going to have to deliever to the station. Also if you cut a 28:30 in non drop frame it is not 28:30 it is actually about 1 and 1/2 minutes longer (This # may be off I don’t really remember the excat number right now), but my point is that if you edit in Non drop to 28:30 the show WILL NOT BE 28:30.
