I’ve never worked with CC before, but have you tried encoding a file in DNxHD or AvcCam, then in a new instance of Vegas, bring it back to the timeline? It the captions are intact, then it worked. Alternately, would the station take the captions in a separate caption file?

I’ve never needed to deliver CC, but have you tried the free DNxHD codec from Avid? Install it and it shows up in the Quicktime templates dropdown.

The HP Elitebook portable workstations all have a built in FireWire port along with E-Sata, usb3, and Express Card slots.

But your solution is to keep the old laptop to capture the Firewire data.

I don’t follow your question, but I’ll venture a guess. You can save any FX setup with a custom name that you can reuse in any other Vegas project. So if I use event Pan Crop to size a video event as a PIP, then I could size and position it and save it as “PIP Upper-Right”. Then on any video event in this or another project, you just open the Pan Crop window and select “PIP Upper-Right” preset from the dropdown.

I’ve never used that camera or the Focus recorder, so I am guessing here. You could try turning off Quantize to Frames, but that is at worst, 1/30 of a second in error.

Could you be looking at the auto fade on audio events? The default is 10ms, but you are reporting 500ms.

The recorder media is formatted as FAT-16 (a Linux standard), thus the 2Gb per segment limit. There should be a program that comes with the recorder that assembles the pieces into one video file.

I can’t think of any way to export the text and timecode. It’s buried in the veg file. But there is a solution to go the other way – Vegasaur. I have a list of timecodes and the text I want there, and Vegasaur makes it too easy.

I am still confused – are you double clicking on the veg file in Windows Explorer or the Vegas Explorer Window? What happens if Vegas is not running and you double click on a veg file in the Windows explorer.
