I do all my audio editing in Vegas because I know it very well. SoundForge has a completely different user interface than Vegas but I have version 9 (pro) because it does have a really good noise reducer.

As I understand it, the OP is just using Vegas for the audio editing. If this is the case, then the Studio version may well limit him in the number of tracks. I don’t think that much has changed in Vegas audio since Version 4, so if it ain’t broke…
To the OP – if there’s any chance that there’s something in Vegas 4 that is contributing to your tempo problem, you can always download a trial of Version 12. By the way – how much slower?

Just a guess, but did you record at 44.1kbps and “render as” using a 48kbps template?

I just happen to have exactly what you want.
This is the process where I used Vegasaur to import the markers and marker labels from a CSV file, then create the lower thirds from the marker labels.
First, prepare the CSV file:
0:00:00.0,00:00:15.0,”Opening”
0:00:16.0,00:00:20.0,”Ward off”
0:00:21.0,00:00:32.0,”Grasp Sparrow’s Tail”
0:00:33.0,00:00:38.0,”Single Whip”
0:00:39.0,00:00:41.0,”Raise Hands”

0:00:46.0,00:00:49.0,”Left Brush Knee Twist Step”TThe first timecode is the marker location HH:MM:SS.ms
The second timecode can be 0:0:0.0 since it is the region size and not used. Even though the second timecode isn’t used, the parser in Vegasaur still expects it.
The marker label follows. The quotes are only needed if there is a comma in the label, but keeping it is a good practice.Save the CSV file.
In Vegasaur (View/Extensions) go to Timeline/Markers.
Optional – delete current markers
Import Markers, CSV File, select the file then hit “Apply”
(This is a good place to scan for text errors).Now we add the lower-thirds.
In Vegasaur/Timeline/Text Generation Wizard:
Generate at Markers
Media Generator: Titles
Preset: PBA Lower Thirds
(next)
Scope: Entire Project
Type: Markers
Text Contents: Use Marker Labels
(next)
Length: Automatic
(next)
Create New TrackHit “Apply” to generate the title events
To add a fade-out:
In Vegas, select all title events
Vegasaur/editing/quick properties
Fades/Transitions tab
Fade Out
Length 00.15Hit “Apply” and all selected events are faded.

Yes, you are over thinking it. Vegas doesn’t care what you call the audio track. BTW – in feature films the spoken dialogue is in mono while SFX and musid are in stereo or 5.1 multichannel.

Vegas has no problems with multiple nested projects – I do it frequently. Nesting makes no difference on encoding time because everything on the timeline is an event. An event on the timeline is a pointer to the media. Nested Vegas projects are just more pointers to media.
