I couldn’t see why dragging the clip to the timeline from the Vegas Explorer or the Windows Explorer would make a difference. It made no difference. I right-click the audio event on track B and drop it on the audio event for track A, and the only options are Copy or Move.

You can’t force any program to use more RAM than it needs.

But, try increasing the RAM Preview –

Reset? I don’t recall a “reset” feature in any previous version – but Holding Ctrl + Shift while starting Vegas will reset all preferences and delete cached data prior to loading the program. If you have recently installed new hardware (especially a new graphics card), this is necessary because Vegas may be loading settings for your old hardware.

Doesn’t work here, John. The only options are the standard Windows “Copy or Move”.

Xvid and Divx should be avoided. They never get along well with Vegas.

Since you mentioned codecs, NEVER-EVER install a codec pack on an editing PC. These are made for gaming and often will install inferior codecs over the ones installed by Vegas.

If you wanted a quickie to review your work on a DVD player, I guess it has its place. I just prefer to make the MPEG and AC3 files then use DVDA.

But, you bring up a good question – how does Vegas determine the encoding parameters for the direct to DVD option? My guess is that it is a CBR at a calculated bit rate depending on the length.

I’ve never used the feature because you have no control of the parameters.

Just drag the camera file to the timeline, ungroup the audio and video tracks, then delete the video track. Resynch the new audio – manually is probably easier, then use the up/down-arrow to move the new audio event on top of the old audio event, and it becomes a take.

video-multiplexers

Or this:
4-Channel-Quad-Multiplexer

Of course you will need another monitor.
