I’ve been doing it for ten years. The only problem came with Vista but I’ve never a problem with Vegas.

I don’t blame you if you are confused by complaints about various downloadable players you find on various forums. The problem is this little thing called AACS. The player programs try to fake the AACS keys and other content restriction methods, but just about every movie produced has a new key. The players try to look like a legitimate Blu-Ray player, but sometimes the studios come up with something new forcing an update in the software.

Press once, then Ripple is on. Then it’s off.
Vegas already knows when something has changed – make any change, no matter how tiny or trivial, and the * next to the save icon comes on. Vegas could just as easily turn ripple off.Steve Mann

I wish that Ripple would always turn itself off after it’s use. I only turn it on when I need ripple, which is pretty rare, then I turn it off.

There’s way too many unknowns in your question to be able to even guess where your bottleneck is.
Every f/x adds to the rendering task, but Vegas’ best friend is more processor power. I have not worked with 3D, but I can imagine that this also increases the load on the processor.

Sony sells a Direct-X plugin: Noise Reduction 2.0
It’s not cheap ($279), and for an additional $100 you can buy Soundforge which has the same Noise Reduction capability.
When NR 2.0 was first available, it was offered with the then latest Vegas upgrade at a discounted price. It would be nice if NR were a part of Vegas to begin with.

I missed the “file” in this line:Right-click and drag the audio file you want to add as a take and drop it on the selected audio event
So, your instructions are correct – I was reading too fast.
BTW – your solution does work from Windows Explorer as well.
