    Hello all.

I’ve made an editing oversight that I’d like a quick fix for vs. restarting.

I inadvertenly added audio envelope points and edited on the audio that’s merged on a series of video clips from recording on a dslr. Audio was recorded separately, looped through the camera so there could be audio, and I’ve used dual eyes to sync up the audio with the video clips.

What I’d like to do is replace the audio of the clip only with the audio recorded separately. I know I can replace audio under project media, but how can I pull off just replacing the audio track that’s incorporated with the video? If I replace for the video clip, I’ll get the audio, but I lose the video.

    Thanks in advance.

You can’t replace the media. What you need to do is add the audio to the event as a Take (right-click drop, add as Take).

I’m sorry, I don’t follow you. Where am I right clicking ‘drop’ and add as take?

Rick-click on the audio file that has the external audio. Drag and Drop it on the event on the timeline with the audio you want to replace. When you let go of the mouse (using right-click) you will see a context menu pop up and one of the options is to “Add as a Take”.

Thanks, but I’m afraid that replaces the edited down clip with the entire audio file. Unless I’m missing something.

Just drag the camera file to the timeline, ungroup the audio and video tracks, then delete the video track. Resynch the new audio – manually is probably easier, then use the up/down-arrow to move the new audio event on top of the old audio event, and it becomes a take.

    Thanks, Steve.

That’s the technique I was trying to avoid but I just spent the past few hours doing just that. Just wanted to save time.

    Thanks everyone for your input.

There is no need to do that. Let me be more specific:

    1. Drop a video clip onto the timeline to create both a video and audio event
    2. Click your mouse on the audio portion of the event to select it
    3. Right-click and drag the audio file you want to add as a take and drop it on the selected audio event
    4. When the context menu pops up, select Add as Take

This works without separating the audio from the video. You just have to drag the audio onto the new audio you want to replace.

Doesn’t work here, John. The only options are the standard Windows “Copy or Move”.

Try using the file explorer from within Vegas. This is standard Vegas behavior for adding as a Take.

I couldn’t see why dragging the clip to the timeline from the Vegas Explorer or the Windows Explorer would make a difference. It made no difference. I right-click the audio event on track B and drop it on the audio event for track A, and the only options are Copy or Move.
