How to monitor 3 DSLRs on a multicam shoot from a laptop
I’m going to run a 3 DSLR shoot and want to be able to monitor (not record or switch) three DSLRs from my laptop, or a separate monitor if I have to. I’ll be giving direction via headset to the camera operators.
This page basically just says I need the Wirecast software and a Blackmagic Design Intensity shuttle (I think-it says that this records, but I just want something to be able to input multiple HDMI sources or even RCA jacks. I’m doing this somewhat rudimentarily since this is with little prep time and am mainly concerned with issuing directions on framing shots).
Anyone know what set up I should have? I’ll test it out. I don’t want to spend more than $300 on the whole set up, which is for a small shoot that is coming up soon. I realize I could get a few, small, portable TVs as monitors, but I’d rather not have three monitors set up.

What would work for a monitor with that for under $150? This is mostly for framing. I realize if I wanted to be able to monitor more detail I’d have to spend more for an HD monitor, but I’m fine with using component cables and looking at an SD picture for this.

It looks like I’ll need to go from HDMI to bnc on these, or component video to bnc. I know there’s adapter cables to do that, but do you recommend one of them? I read that you can’t really split HDMI the way I want to on this, but I don’t know if that’s resolved if you connect a bnc cable on the end. As for component video, I’d have a bunch of leftover cables, but I that’s not really a problem as long as it works.

I just use TV monitors from Walmart. Vizio has some 22″ for like $158 or so, 1080p. If you are planning on doing numerous shoots in the future they will come in handy. Once you get cabling to go from HDMI to RGB or SDI and yada yada, you will run into a bit of cash too. Also, if you can get something with picture in a picture, you can see more than one at a time.
Do your cameras support wifi? Sometimes that helps with just framing as well.I use an ATEM TVS for IMAG and various recording shoots as well. It gives you a multi-view which is every camera, and allows up to 4 HDMI inputs and another HD-SDI….but it runs about $1000.
