Backslash is an indicator that a special character follows. Use double slashes for each one you want to show in the post. (To get \\, I entered four backslash characters).

Everything after “(access violation)” is useless except to the original programmer.
This means that something (usually an old driver) is trying to write to memory that another application (probably Vegas) has marked as “in use”.
If you are using Norton Antivirus, then that would be my first suspicion.

If you like drag-n-drop site building, check out WYSIWYG. I like it because the interface is based on Visual Studio. Everything is an object with properties.

Version 8.0a (Build 179)
Exception 0xC0000005 (access violation) WRITE:0x20000 IP:0x20005 ”Everything that follows is meaningless to everyone except the programmer, and then only in controlled circumstances.
According to Microsoft:
Fatal exception errors are codes that are returned by a program in the following cases:* Access to an illegal instruction has been encountered
* Invalid data or code has been accessed
* The privilege level of an operation is invalidWhen any of these cases occurs, the processor returns an exception to the operating system, which in turn is handled as a fatal exception error. In many cases the exception is non-recoverable and the system must either be restarted or shut down, depending upon the severity of the error.

The video card makes no difference, but your system should be just fine even for HDV. (I am jealous).
You say that DV is just as bad, so this suggests that there is something fundamentally wrong here.
First, have you tried a simple DV short with no editing besides cuts? It should preview easily.

Can you repeat this error reliably?
Can you render or encode in segments to identify a few seconds of the project that you can reliably crash?Steve Mann

The Sony PD-150 and PD-170 (Vx2000,VX2100) are known for their low-light abilities and I don’t think any other prosumer cameras have bested them yet.
