No matter what I do, I can’t get Vegas to properly preview the videos. It looks more or less ok if there’s no transition in the video, but as soon as there is one it’s jerky as hell, which makes working almost impossible. I’m truly desperate right now. What could be a possible reason causing this?

I have a Core 2 Duo 3.00GHz and 4GB RAM by the way.

    Are you working in HD?

What setting do you have your preview at?

I’ve tested with both HD and SD clips, and I get practically the same jerky preview. I’ve already put the preview to the lowest quality possible, no change at all.

The video card makes no difference, but your system should be just fine even for HDV. (I am jealous).

You say that DV is just as bad, so this suggests that there is something fundamentally wrong here.

First, have you tried a simple DV short with no editing besides cuts? It should preview easily.
