There’s a few things that cause this, including, that you don’t have enough memory. But 2GB of RAM on an XT system should be more than enough.
This sometimes happens when you have a large JPG or PNG image on the timeline. You can also get this error if your pagefile RAM is badly fragged, but rebooting should fix that. Also, a hard-disk more than 3/4 full can also cause this because there may not be enough contiguous space on the hard disk for your pagefile to swap out.
Try making your pagefile a fixed size. This way the Windows pagefile management wouldn’t be able to generate this error, and you would see a tiny improvement in disk performance. You do this by setting the min and max pagefile size to the same value.
If you are running Norton Antivirus, then you have a resource hog on your hands.
