Thanks. It’s not a stinger, but close. It was one short word, and it’s been bugging me for weeks. A stinger is usually 4 or 8 beats, and the three-tone NBC identifier is a lot shorter than that.

    “I record in h.264, ac3 5.1, MP4. I import the file to vegas …..”

You can’t import AC3 into Vegas. Is this a VOB file from a DVD?

“The first second or so is nice, then the blur kicks in.”

Is this on the preview window? My PC is underpowered for the HDV work that I do and one to two seconds after starting a preview playback, the preview window shifts to draft quality.

Have you checked the task manager to make sure it’s really gone? It really sounds like a PC problem. If it were me, I would reinstall Vegas and try again.

How does it shut down? Error, hang, Blue Screen of Death?

I would first suspect not enough memory or not enough hard-disk. Since you have not added any system information in your profile, we can only guess.

Make sure that “render selected region” is UNchecked.

Do you have a region selected and that’s all you’re rendering?

October 25, 2010 at 2:50 am in reply to: Sony Firewire

“USB to Firewire device is conceptually possible… I could build you one that works like a champ. But no one has, because it gets kind of expensive. You really need a full fledged Firewire device, a good deal of buffer memory, and a high speed USB device”

    Yeah – like, a computer.

Like you say, it’s conceptually possible, but you would be reinventing the PC, and it would be cheaper to just buy a PC with Firewire in the first place.

I can’t imagine how such a device could work. Firewire is a DMA data dump and USB is a handshake protocol.
