This means that something in one of your nested files is missing. Go into each of the nested projects and remove all unused media from the “Project Media” window. (The lightning icon).

Is that a “Green” drive? It may have gone offline during the “Render As”.

Unless you are working with uncompressed HD (which most of us can’t afford), you do not need RAID. The Seagate drives you mention are what I use all the time in a desktop USB docking station. Any non-green 7200 RPM drive should be OK.
Also, unless you really need the network domain services in Windows 7 pro, Home premium is all you need for the O/S.

These are interlacing artifacts. Your “Render As” description says that you are rendering interlaced.

Trevor, if your Version 6 is registered with Sony you should have been receiving upgrade emails from SCS. If so, you qualify for an upgrade price from Version 6 when Version 11 comes out.

If you are using the same codec and bitrate, then yes, the edited file should be smaller. Look for the free program: mediainfo.

If you have registered your Version 8 software, then you should be receiving an upgrade letter when Version 11 is released. This letter has historically had a brief discount price for current users. Also, SCS made some significant improvements in how AVCHD is handled in Version 10.

Filesize and Quality are directly controlled by the encoded bitrate, which is under your control. Higher bitrate=higher quality=larger encoded file size.

Filesize is determined primarily by the bitrate you used in the encoding template.

Higher bitrate=better quality=larger file.

You want a smaller file, use a lower bitrate.

You only have to answer the prompt for the first file, then Vegas will try that location for the remaining files.
