Vegas 6 upgrade
Hi guys,
I bought Vegas 6 a few years ago and although initially finding the learning process challenging, enjoyed it (never got close to mastering it) and certainly appreciated its capability. I even went so far as to buy Douglas Spotted Eagle’s Vegas 6 editing workshop book to help me through. Then for reasons too numerable to mention, I gave it away for a few years. Recently, my kids have been hassling me to get back into editing and I have a new found passion to start again. This also means that I have lost most if not all of the knowledge that I had.
I have recently purchased a new PC running Windows 7. My questions are this:
Will Vegas 6 run smoothly on Windows 7?
I understand that Vegas 6 does not capture HD video and can see myself upgrading to Vegas 10. Do you think that I should try and accomplish a good understanding of Vegas 6 with the aid of DSE’s workshop manual prior to upgrading or bite the bullet and get into Vegas 10 straight away?
For those who may have read/ used DSE’s manual, do you believe that much in that manual is still relevant in Vegas 10?
Any advice would be much appreciated.Regards

Personally, I would just go and purchase Vegas 10. I haven’t worked in a version prior to 8, but 10 hasn’t changed much from 8, and 8 was a breeze to pick up (having never done video editing before).
However, I would wait and buy Version 10 just before they release VErsion 11. This is because usually if you buy the older version within a month of the new version being released, they give you a free upgrade.
Thus, you’ll get to fully fledged working copies for one price. 🙂

PS: Vegas 6 isn’t 64 bit, and won’t be able to take advantage of 64-bit architecture.

I guess I was always going to go to the latest version anyway. Do you have any idea when Vegas 11 might be available?

With that in mind Dave, I am assuming it will still run in Windows 7??

Trevor, if your Version 6 is registered with Sony you should have been receiving upgrade emails from SCS. If so, you qualify for an upgrade price from Version 6 when Version 11 comes out.
