I can’t see anything wrong with the veg file. I filled the project with my own media and didn’t see any problems. What were you encoding?

I’ve never done it that way though I have been using Vegas Pro for 11 years.
By the way, there are no clips in Vegas. If it’s on the timeline, it’s an event.
If you need to edit the event, then just open its veg file in a separate run of Vegas Pro. Once you have gotten the events the way you like, then you can nest them on the master.Why don’t you just drag all the original media files to one timeline?

You really didn’t answer the question, or I didn’t ask it correctly. Your description of “copy/paste” in the original post is confusing because you don’t copy/paste the veg files – you just drag them to your timeline. Do you only have one instance of Vegas running and you are putting the individual veg files on the timeline? (This is nesting).
I do this frequently on long projects – up to two hours long – where the main project starts with a nested veg file for the opening, then a nested veg file with the content, then a final nested veg file with the curtain (end segment).
Is this your workflow: Open a new project and drag your segment veg files to the timeline?
If yes, then you’re doing it correctly – now try rearranging the veg files. Put the last first, drag others to the timeline at random. If there’s something wrong with one of the veg files it may fail to load.

Aw, come on guys. The OP asks a straightforward question and you tell him to learn scripting? That’s like if he asked what grade of gas should he buy for his car and you send him to chemistry class.
Here’s a forum post that references a script to set all event resample properties.
Next, there is a free utility that can be used to disable all smart resample properties at once. This is particularly useful if you have a lot of events that you want to reset. It’s also a cool utility to have anyway.
Download and install the free utility, “Timeline Tools” from MoaSoftware.
Open Timeline Tools, Select the Track Event Info tab.
In the “Select Tracks” dropdown menu, select “All Video Tracks”.
Right-click anywhere in the grid and click on “Highlight All Events”.
Right-click anywhere in the grid again and select “Edit Highlighted Event Properties”.
In the Event Properties section select Resample Mode=Disable.
Close the Edit Video Event Properties window and Timeline Tools.Steve Mann

I mean hard coded into Vegas. Vegas makes and manages its own thumbnails in the Project Media window., and there is a 100 thumbnail limit.
I installed the Microsoft Raw codec pack (recommended by Sony) and it gave me thumbnails for a lot of filetypes: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=26829

I am confused about your workflow. Are you opening multiple instances of Vegas or using embedded veg files? If you are opening multiple instances of Vegas, then you will run out of RAM because each of them reserves some RAM for its exclusive use. Go to Preferences and reduce your Preview RAM to 1Mb and see if that helps. Don’t be tempted to go to zero Preview RAM because Vegas does need some – even if you never use RAM preview. (I suspect that an ancient programmer used some of the Preview Ram as a scratchpad memory.)

Can’t help you with the 100p60 question, but I seem to recall that 1080p60 is not in the AVC spec.
As far as the codec, you can’t get any more data from your source media colorspace. AVCHD is 4:2:0, so using a codec with a higher colorspace spec gains you nothing.
Oh, and a nitpick of mine – you don’t render AVC, you encode it – notwithstanding Sony’s putting the encoding processes in the Render As menu.
