Thanks John, I figured as much. Right now I’m doing another render and I don’t want to fire up another instance of Vegas to play with automation. But I can’t figure out – how do I turn it off?

Jake, try right-clicking on the Preview window, verify these settings:

“Simulate Device Aspect Ratio” and
“Scale video to fit preview window”

Scaling can slow down performance but is needed if you have chosen a size “bigger” than the window.

Simulate Device Aspect Ratio might be causing odd results, but for me it does not hurt anything – perhaps because I make sure my media matches the project (when possible)

True that, but I’m stuck with this box for at least the next year.

I can live with slow playback, but would like to speed up renders.

I can add a second CPU – thoughts on that? That would give me 8 physical cores, and Vegas by default can run 16 threads.

Well, After clicking madly on everything with no effect (embarrassing to admit this, not what pilots are trained to do …), I gave up and exited SVP12 and then restarted SVP12. Levels are back.

Bug?

Anyway, left it rendering and am going to bed!

Same odd thing just happened to me. Right before the levels on the upper right side audio stopped moving, I had been fiddling with the little red gear that has “Touch” next to it on the Audio Track controls. The levels still move on that little control panel, just not on the main Audio. Also, an odd “Master” thingie appeared above the levels, and the volume knob on the main audio changed in appearance, and there is no longer a little lock icon below it to click to separate the L & R tracks. See below.

This is some kind of a “feature” – reminds me of the FX on/off preview thing that is so maddening.

For years I was spoiled in that I had only one camera a Sony HDR-CX550V. When the files were imported with the Sony Picture Motion Browser utility, they were all given a very specific date/time based name, for example:

20130317145649.mt2s . That file was recorded on March 17, 2013, at 14:56:49. Cool, eh? The utility would also concatenate any files that were larger than 4 GB – no need to use copy source1 + source2 destination /b . The copy thing is the only way to stitch together multiple files with ZERO dropout in the audio, important for my symphony recordings.

Now that I also have a Panny GH3, I would be in the same boat as you, even though I do a pretty good job of organizing by folders and having obsessive multiple backups (including off-site BD-R’s)

The short answer is “yes, YT mucks with the quality”.

Vimeo is much better, particularly if you pay for a Pro account.

It is good you are trying to maximize quality with Handbrake, that can help; I assume you already have seen this:

Which discusses all the wonderfully complicated Handbrake stuff … that I don’t use because I am lazy and just pick Sony AVC … lame, perhaps.
