  • Sony Vegas – still images come out of place when rendering?

When I’m setting key frames for images, it looks perfect in the preview, but when I go to render the video, the output .mp4 file is completely different and all the key framing I have done has all come out of place.. all of the images are about an inch to the left of where the preview showed them.

How can I fix this problem? This isn’t the first time this has happened, I was working on something a few weeks ago and decided to scrap it because of this problem.

You are describing such an unusual result that I have to think it’s purely a local issue, and/or your Timeline.

If this was happening for the rest of us, we’d be hearing much more of it.

I think it might be something to do with aspect ratios, and my preview being different to my render settings? Do you know anything about it?

Try rendering to a different format apart from MP4.
    Try a quicktime format.

[Jake Griffiths] “I think it might be something to do with aspect ratios, and my preview being different to my render settings? Do you know anything about it?”

Yup. If your project is using a different aspect than your render settings you have correctly identified the problem. The solution is simple. Render to the project aspect, or change you project aspect to match your render aspect and redo all of the picture placement.

Hard lesson learned but if you plan on doing any Track Motion or Pan/Crop you MUST keep your project aspect and render aspect the same.

Jake, try right-clicking on the Preview window, verify these settings:

    “Simulate Device Aspect Ratio” and
“Scale video to fit preview window”

Scaling can slow down performance but is needed if you have chosen a size “bigger” than the window.

Simulate Device Aspect Ratio might be causing odd results, but for me it does not hurt anything – perhaps because I make sure my media matches the project (when possible)
