  • Sony Vegas Pro 12.770 freezes when I import a previously rendered .mp4 file

Posted by Cedric Divang on January 15, 2014 at 4:16 pm

Hello, Sony vegas Pro 12 build 770 crashes when I import a previously rendered .MP4 file and drop it to the video/audio tracks. It becomes unresponsive and all I can do is kill the app. I can easily reproduce this bug.

You can download the video that freezes Vegas here : https://www.lehit.com/temp/svp12.770.freeze.zip

The video that freezes was rendered using the very same software with this settings :
    Codec : MainConcept AVC/AAC (*.mp4)
Frame Size : HDV 1080 (1440×1080) – Don’t allow source to adjust frame size
    Profile : High
Frame rate : 25,000 (PAL) – Don’t allow source to adjust frame rate
Field order : Upper field first
    Pixel aspect ratio : 1,333
Number of reference frames : 2 (default) – Use deblocking filter
Variable bit rate – 2 Pass
    – Maximum bps : 20 000 000
    – Average bps : 10 000 000
Number of slices : 4 (default)
Encode mode : Render using OpenCL if available
    Enable progressive download

And here is the result file’s nfo that freezes Sony Vegas even though I can read it without any problem on any video player (WMP, VLC, etc.) :

Try taking the accent character out of the filename: “d’Australie”.

Steve, I used the exact same title on a test MP4 that was rendered out of Vegas, and Vegas opens it. So I don’t think it’s that? You do mean the high-comma, as in – d’ – yes? Well here that’s not stopping it from opening.

Stephen, thanks for your reply. No the character is not a problem.
I have added a link to the video on my original post. If you or anyone else could download it and tell me if it freezes their copy of Vegas too, it would be useful :

The frame rate has doubled in the Media Info. Any reason?

Sorry, it loads here just fine.

How is your free disk space on the project and the temp drives?

After importing the video, have you tried dropping it to the video/audio tracks ? Importing the video is not a problem, it’s when you try to edit it (split sections, etc.) or even rendering it that it freezes. Thanks again for your help, it’s really appreciated 🙂

Good point Grazie. I have no idea, I always render using “25,000 (PAL)” in the rendering menu :-/
