Activity Forums VEGAS Pro Sony Vegas Pro 12.770 freezes when I import a previously rendered .mp4 file

This file does have problems in Vegas 12 770 for me.

When I play in the trimmer the performance is very bad. It starts better and gets worse.

I can drop the media on the timeline and play. Again performance is bad. If I press stop, then Vegas becomes unresponsive.

I can play the video in Media Player Classic Home Cinema. There is a jumpiness from frame to frame. Artistic or bad encode?

What does Sony support say about this?

Norman, thanks for your reply. It’s the exact problem I’m getting. The video has been encoded using the settings mentionned in my initial message on Vegas 12.770, anyone can reproduce the problem. I think it’s a bug of Vegas.

    I haven’t contacted Sony yet.

I am correct in reading the 100% jump in the FPS? Or am I totally nutz?

Is it possible to re-render keeping an eye on that FPS and check through MediaInfo for the FPS again. Do you have any OTHER MP4 with a MediaInfo of 25FPS to checkout?

    Interesting . ..

Are you dragging into a NEW Project? If so is it asking to set the settings for you? If so do the settings reflect the 50FPS that MediaInfo is saying it is?

Yes, I’m dragging it into a new project. Vegas is not asking to set the settings for me but the box “Adjust source media to better match project or render settings” is checked, and no it doesn’t reflect the 50fps that mediainfo is saying it is. It says it’s 25fps as you can it see here :

Thanks again for trying to help.

I did drag into an empty project. I have Vegas set to ask to match media properties and I did so.

Yes I have other .MP4 videos with a media info of 25fps. It seems that I get 25fps when I deinterlace the video but if I keep it interlaced (which I prefer, since the source file is interlaced) then for some reason the encoded file says 50fps even though I selected 25fps in the rendering menu. I do think it’s a bug. The previous version of Vegas (12.726) fixed a bug related to MainConcept (Release Note : “Fixed a bug that caused incorrect frames to be rendered when using the MainConcept AVC/AAC format with the Encode mode set to Render using CPU only.”). I wouldn’t be surprised if there were other bugs with this codec that carried over to 770. I will try and contact Sony about this as soon as I can.

Sorry – I dragged your file to the timeline, split it in a few places, added a text overlay, added som f/x and rendered it – no problems.

:-O Are you using Sony Vegas Pro 12 build 770 ?

Holy Crap – you’re on to something.

I’ve been gone for a few weeks and had not downloaded 770. I was running 563. I downloaded 770 and tried your file again and yes, I crashed whenever I tried doing some editing. And the preview rate went to Hades as well. I am going back to 563.

OK, I reinstalled build 563 and again, I had no problems with your file. Preview is smooth and edits work just fine. Before deleting 770 I tried opening one of my older projects. I had no problems editing, but the preview was remarkably slow. Back to 563 and it was just fine.

Go to the Sony support site and send them your file and findings. Also, download and install 563 and try it again. (I can’t find the link on the Sony site, but someone here found the link to older builds).
